EndSARS protests gather momentum as Buhari backs protest, says youths have right to peaceful protests
President Muhammadu Buhari has said that Nigerian Youths have the fundamental rights to protest as long as the protest is peaceful and focused.
Buhari who said the youths of the country have the right to demand certain things however advised the youths not to allow hoodlums to hijack the protests and called for more time to meet their demands.
The President who spoke through the Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare,on Monday, told State House Correspondents that” The youths of the country have spoken and he has heard and he has since gone to work for the youths of the country.”
Buhari expressed his commitment to ensuring that the reforms he has promised are not only met but long lasting and will deliver Nigeria Police Force that Nigerians will be proud of
The president appreciated the fact that the SARS issues were brought up through peaceful protest and said that as far as he is concerned,it is important to allow the younger generation to exercise their freedom to protest and make sure that such protest is in a peaceful manner..
The President said that for the fact that the youths have called upon the government to do what is necessary and that as President and a father, he will make sure that the demands as put forward were met.
The Sports Minister had met the President earlier Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja to brief the president on the ongoing protests across the country.
