An Igbo pressure group,Igbo National Council (INC) says it will not hesitate to commence legal process against the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike if he failed to withdraw soldiers from Oyigbo within 72 hours
Oyigbo is a Local Government Area in Rivers SouthEast Senatorial district and has never been under the control or supervision of the Igbos.
The group alleged that the governor’s use of the soldiers against members of IPOB was motivated by his 2023 ambition of running for office of Vice President
In a statement signed by the group’s National President,Chilos Godsent and the Secretary General,Zulu Ofoelu said it noted the governors broadcast regarding the activities of IPOB in Rivers State and said the governor will soon be disappointed.
According to the group,Wike is playing a script that” showed to the Jihadists that he has the capacity and willingness to attack and try to exterminate the Igbo Race in River State as a condition to get the support of the Caliphate”
A concerned Senior citizen of Rivers State who spoke with current matters and preferred to be unnamed queried the rationale of Igbo groups taking up arms against defenceless residents of the state saying” Is Rivers State an extension of Igboland?
” If Igbos are fighting for their own nation, Rivers State has more than the population and resources to emerge as a nation of its own.Oh is it because of the resources in Rivers that they want to annex Oyigbo? That cannot happen.
” Rivers State should not be brought into the center of such illmotivated agenda of any ethnic group. We are simply Rivers people and no one has the right to make baseless insinuations about the army troops sent on a mission to restore order in the LGA.
When asked about his take on the 72 hour ultimatum given to the governor by the group, the statesman said’It is cheap blackmail and such cheap threats and blackmail cannot be taken seriously.”
“Who are they to drag a Rivers governor or indigene to ICC? So the government and people of the state should watch while IPOB members continued to take the laws into their hands? A threat to one community is a threat to all.”he added
