Just seven days after Pfizer and BioNTech announced the trial success of their vaccine and said it was more than 90 %effective in blocking Covid-19 infection among those without evidence of prior infection, Moderna, another company,has announced the trial success of its vaccine saying its more than 94% effective.
Moderna’s Chairman and co founder,Noubar Afeyan said the results of the trial exceeded their expectation.
The vaccines trial success has been described as a welcome development in the face of recent surge in coronavirus around the world.
America’s leading Scientist, Anthony Fauci had said vaccine that is 50% or 60% effective would be acceptable so having two vaccines that have extraordinarily efficacy is indeed a light at the end of the tunnel.
However, wealthy countries have reportedly bought one billion doses of the Pfizer vaccine representing about 80% of the preventive medicine.
The vaccines are to be administered on high priority groups in America late next month.
The United States of America has the worst case scenario of coronavirus cases and fatalities in the world. The country has over eleven million cases with close to Two hundred and fifty thousand deaths.
For poor countries grappling with severe economic crisis, there is also hope on the horizon but no one knows how long it will take the life saving vaccines to get to those destinations.
