A High Court sitting in Yola, the Adamawa State Capital has sentenced a herdsman,Bappa Alti to death by hanging for Killing his son for N1MILLION
The Presiding Judge, Justice Fatima Ahmed Tafida on Wednesday,sentenced the herder for hitting his son with a rearing stick and thereafter chopping off his head with a cutlass
The convict reportedly lured his son,Buba to the farm on July 13,2013, in Ganji suburb of Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State and beheaded him.
The incident took a twist when the victim’s grandfather, father to the convict, arrived home and asked for the whereabout of his grandson. Bappa told him that he left the child in the farm and the boy would return later.
Worried that his grandson had not return home from the farm for days, the grandfather lodged a complaint at the Gombi divisional police station where a search party was commissioned.
Unfortunately, the search led to the discovery of the boy’s decomposing body under a tree in the farm covered with leaves. Bappa was arrested and on interogatiion, he confessed that one Ahaji Sange Hassan had asked him to bring a human head for N1MILLION
He said the money was intended for raising the status of his family.The alleged sponsor of the human head,Hassan however denied the allegation saying it was a plot aimed at blackmailing him
Justice Tafida after evaluating the evidences which included the deceased severe head, weapon of murder (cutlass) and his confessional statement declared that the suspect masterminded the killing of his son an offence contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code law and accordingly sentenced him to death by hanging.
