Abuja Female auto mechanic, Ikponmwosa stuns customers, unfolds her passion for fellow ladies

Ikponmwosa,a 25 -year- old female mechanic stunned visitors to OJ TEC Autocare Ltd,mobil filling station , Lokogoma, Abuja when she was seen fully cladded in mechanic uniform servicing vehicles and changing break parts with utmost dedication.

In an interview with current matters, on Thursday, Ikponmwosa said she stumbled on the trade through her mother

According to the Edo born rare female mechanic, while she was away for rehearsal, a team of female mechanics had visited their home and engaged her mother with fliers inscribed Lady mechanic initiative.Upon her return,her mother gave her the flier and asked her if she was interested, Ikponmwosa asked her mother if the females that had brought the fliers were mechanics and her mother affirmed and she decided to make a try.

She enrolled at the Lady’s Mechanic Initiative, founded by Engineer Sandra Agwebor in Benin City for 4 years.During the period of intensive training in Benin City,her mentor, Agwebor,also exposed her to training in Lagos and 6 months internship at Peugeot automobile in Kaduna

.”I went for rehearsal, when I came back my mother gave me a flier.She said some Ladies were walking around and they brought the fliers home and they were mechanics who went for training.So she asked me If I was interested and I asked her did you tell them if they can do the job of mechanic? She said yes.And I said,If they can do the job,I can also do the job.So that was how everything started.

I took the flier and went to their office and registered.I graduated from school of Automative Engineering in 2014 (Lady’s Mechanic Initiative) Benin City, the Edo capital after four years of training.

Ikponmwosa works include ,Auto suspension,brakes, diagnosis and Services.

Ikponmwosa is the only female in a a family of four and loves tending to vehicles.

However, the single Lady thinks she ought to grow higher than what she makes presently in comparison to the energy and time expended on the job on daily basis.

Her ambition includes owning a training school where she could use her experience to mentor aspiring female mechanics and also own a mechanic workshop.

“I want to set up an initiative like the initiative that trained me.I want to train ladies like me and also open a shop where practice can be made perfect.”
