President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the service chiefs to rescue the students of Government Science College Kagara in Rafi local government area of Niger Delta.
The Presidential directive came few hours after the Niger state government ordered the closure of all boarding schools in the state following the abduction of students in the state
Buhari in a statement on Wednesday,, signed by his special assistant on Media and Publicity,Garba Shehu, Buhari described the abduction of the innocent children as a cowardly act.
The President asked the Military and the police to ensure a successful rescue operation of the children while ordering a dispatch of a team of security operatives to Niger to work with the state and community to effect release of the children .
He reiterated his administration’s resolve to bring banditry and insurgency to a standstill adding that his prayers are with the families of the school children.
Earlier, on Wednesday, gunmen disguised in school uniform stormed the college premises and killed a student while abducting many others in an operation that reportedly lasted for more than 3 hours.
Some of the students and teachers sustained various degrees of gun shot injuries.
Although the number of abducted students was yet to be ascertained at press time,it was gathered that the number could be more than a hundred.
