The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a yet- to- be identified man by suspected cultists at the village market, located in the Makurdi modern market.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene told newsmen on Tuesday in Makurdi, that the victim was trailed to the market by the assailants
Anene said the “young man was hit on the head by the unknown men around 11.a.m and was rushed to the hospital where he was eventually confirmed dead .”
She expressed the comnand’s condolences to the bereaved family and friends and assured them of discreet Investigation that would bring to book the perpetrators of the heinous act.
An eyewitness who spoke under anonymity said the incident occurred around 10.45 a m just when traders were displaying their wares for the day.
The source said the deceased rode on his motorcycle to the market and was trying to pack the vehicle when his attackers who were two in number, walked up to him and hit him several times.
“He tried to run but the assailants rushed after him with stones and tyre wheel and hit him on his head until he died.”
The incident according to the source said made the traders to lock up their shops to take cover outside the market until the police arrived the scene and evacuated the corpse and the motorcycle.
