The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one suspect in connection with the attack at the home of former Central Bank Governor,Chukwuma Soludo.
Soludo was attacked at a campaign rally at a civic center in his country home, Isuofia , in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Three Policemen reportedly lost their lives during the attack which occurred at about 5.30 p.m on Wednesday,March 31.
The former CBN governor is seeking election to the office of governor on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA in the November 6 governoship election
His party APGA under the leadership of the Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano,had declared him unopposed ,a decision that ignited criticism against the governor.
However, many in the state believed that Soludo is the candidate to beat in the election.
The Command on Thursday issued a statement saying that a Police team had been commissioned to undertake discreet Investigation into the attack.
The Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga who issued the statement said that the Commissioner of Police in the state,Mr Monday Kuryas had visited the scene of the attack late Wednesday.
According to him, “the assailants were resisted by security operatives present at the event and in the ensuing gun duel, there police operatives sustained severe gunshot injuries and were later confirmed dead in hospital.
” Their corpses have been deposited in the mortuary.
” The attackers abducted one Engr Emeka Ezenwanne, the Anambra State Commissioner of Public Utilities.” He said
