Medicins Sans Frontieres ( MSF) also known as Doctors Without Borders has said that 1,158 children with measles were recorded in Gwange Paediatric Hospital in Maiduguri and its environs within the past five months.
Borno Field ‘Communication Officer of MSF, Mr Abdulkareem Yakubu, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, said that the cases were recorded from December 2020 to April 3,2021.
It said in response,MSF strenghtened the hospitalisation capacity in both Gwange and Fori Health facilties, increasing the number of beds from 65 too 105 in Gwange
According to the statement, MSF has also launched activities in patnership with the authorities in the town of Zabarmari one of the most affected areas,which has an estimated population of 45,000 people, including displaced families in host community..
It added that Vaccination plan was in progress at the state and federal levels with the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organisation in line with the MSF Head of Missions, David Therond, suggestion for a vaccination campaign against the epidemic in Borno.
