The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has confirmed the killing of four suspected sea pirates and arrested one in Oron waterways on Akwa Ibom.
The Police Public Relations Officer,Macdon Odiko, who confirmed the development in a statement in Uyo on Wednesday, explained that the” Police embarked on a sting operation along Ikang Creek,Oron,where they were confronted by sea pirates numbering about thirty- two on board and four speed boats,armed with sophisticated weapons on Tuesday,April 13th
According to him, the suspects on sighting the operatives opened fire on them, during the ensuing gun battle, four suspects were killed while others escaped with three speed boats.
He said the exhibits recovered from the suspects were one W23 boat mounted with 115HP Yamaha engine,two rifles and six rounds of amunitions.
In a similar vein, the Command Spokesman said while responding to a distress call at about 2:50a:m , Operatives of ‘ D’ Division,Itam, mobilised to church Road where hoodlums were operating on March 28
He noted that the hoodlums on sighting the operatives fired at them, and during the exchange of fire,one suspect identified as Nsikak’ m’ other names unknown sustained bullet wounds, while Imoh Daniel was arrested.
Odiko said the injured suspect was rushed to the hospital for treatment but died in the process.
He added that items recovered included one locally- made pistol,one live cartridge,one expended cartridge, one axe,one matchete and a face mask.
