A non governmental organization in Port Harcourt, Selfless Patriots Initiative has trained sixty young women in make up skills and fashion Design.
President of the NGO, Selfless Patriots Initiative, Mrs Achor Iyalla during the graduation of students at the end of the three weeks long training in Port Harcourt, said the initiative is to empower the girl child in the society.
“As part of activities to celebrate the Selfless Patriot Initiative SPI fourth anniversary every 29th of April, we decided to organize a free make up skill acquisition for indigent women and youths. This happens to be the first batch, the second batch of training will commence by May 13th. We believe that when we empower the girl child, we are empowering the nation, with these skills, the girl child can take care of her self without being abused while looking up to the society”, she explained.
Iyalla said the best students during the three-week long training would be encouraged with some starter packs to be successful entrepreneurs.
She advised the graduating students to make judicious use of skills acquired to sustain themselves financially and also train and empower others.
Our correspondent Precious Ahiakwo reports that the free training and starter packs worth over five hundred thousand naira was funded by members of the NGO, SPI as a give back to the society.
They called for sponsorships from well meaning individuals and organization so as contain more less privileged in the society with the SPI empowerment programs.
Highlights of the graduation ceremony includes, make up practicals and competition, and cultural fashion parade by models dressed by the graduating students.
