The Akwa Ibom Police Command has described as unfortunate the death of a man allegedly killed by suspected herdsmen in Ikot Atasung community at Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area(LGA) of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Odiko Macdon who confirmed the incident to newsmen in Uyo, the state capital on Monday.
said the incident happened on Sunday, in Ikot Atasung community in Ikot Ekpene LGA of Akwa Ibom.
“Yes, we have received that report. This is an unfortunate one.
“The CP, Andrew Amiengheme has already ordered a discrete investigation into the matter with the aim of apprehending the perpetrator of the act.
“I want to believe that in no distance time, we will have an update on that because those who have committed the crime would be brought to book,” he said.
A source who refused to mention his name said that armed men suspected to be Fulani Herdsmen on Sunday, attacked Ikot Atasung community in Ikot Ekpene LGA of Akwa Ibom killing one Mr Silvanus Usen.
He said Usen brother, Andrew was severely injured and is currently at the hospital battling to survive.
“A possible face-off between the angry youths and the Hausa Community in Ikot Ekpene was avoided on Sunday through the intervention of some political actors and the police.
“The situation in the community is still very volatile and tensed, ” he said.
