The Federal government had on Monday approved reduction of vehicles seat capacities to 50 percent
Acting General Secretary of the NURTW, Kabiru Yau said that the new measures by the government could force drivers to hike transport fares if they were not supported by government .
He said government should help the union in subsidising the cost of the passengers that they will not be carrying as the reduced number of passengers would bally affect their income.
According to him, the spacing in the vehicles in compliance with theh government directive will require drivers to carry only 9 passengers instead of 10 in an 18 seater bus
The Federal government had imposed a ban on interstate movement along with flight operations.and others in March 2020 due to covid-19.
However government eased restrictions on the transport sector on Monday by approving guidelines that would contain the spread of coronavirus.
